Our team brings decades of combined experience in institutional clean energy finance, tax strategy, asset management, and private wealth advisory — dedicated exclusively to the Balcony Advantage mission.
Balcony Advantage is a specialist firm. Every member of our leadership team has dedicated their career to clean energy finance, institutional tax strategy, or private wealth management — and in most cases, all three.
We are not a large firm. We are a deliberate one. The relationships between our team members — and between our team and our clients — are built to endure across market cycles, regulatory changes, and investment timelines that can span two decades or more.
Robert founded Balcony Advantage after two decades at the intersection of institutional energy finance and private wealth management. He previously led clean energy tax structuring at a major national bank, where he was responsible for originating and closing over $2 billion in solar tax equity transactions on behalf of Fortune 500 clients. Recognizing that the same strategies were inaccessible to private individuals and family offices, he founded Balcony Advantage to change that.
He holds a JD from Georgetown University Law Center and a BA in Economics from Williams College. He is a frequent speaker at family office and wealth management conferences on the intersection of clean energy and private wealth strategy.
Margaret leads the firm's tax strategy practice, overseeing the design and certification of every client investment structure. She brings eighteen years of experience in renewable energy tax law, including a decade at a national tax advisory firm where she led the energy credits practice. She is one of a small number of practitioners nationally with deep expertise in the application of both the Investment Tax Credit and the Production Tax Credit to private ownership structures.
Margaret holds an LLM in Taxation from New York University School of Law and a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. She is a frequent contributor to Tax Notes and other practitioner publications on renewable energy tax policy.
Daniel oversees the firm's asset management function — responsible for the sourcing, diligence, operations monitoring, and exit management of every solar asset in the client portfolio. He brings fifteen years of experience in renewable energy project development and asset management, including senior roles at two of the largest utility-scale solar developers in the country. He has been responsible for the development, financing, and operation of solar projects totaling over 800 MW.
Daniel holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Duke University. He serves on the board of a regional clean energy industry association.
Sarah leads the firm's client experience — overseeing onboarding, ongoing relationship management, quarterly reporting, and coordination between Balcony Advantage and each client's existing advisory team. She brings twelve years of experience in private client services at two leading wealth management firms, where she served ultra-high-net-worth families and family offices. Her role ensures that every Balcony Advantage client has a single, knowledgeable point of contact at all times.
Sarah holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and a BA in Political Economy from Tulane University. She is a Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA).
"We built this firm because we believed that the best clean energy tax strategies — the ones that major corporations had used for decades — deserved to be available to the private investors who could benefit most from them."— Robert Callahan, Managing Partner
We have made a deliberate choice to remain small. A larger client base would require a larger team, more standardized processes, and inevitably, less depth in each individual relationship. That is not the firm we want to be.
Every year, we accept a limited number of new clients — not because demand is limited, but because the quality of service we commit to requires it. If you are considering working with us, know that your engagement will receive the full attention of our senior leadership throughout the lifecycle of your investment.
This is not a transaction. It is a relationship — and we intend for it to be a lasting one.
Every client engagement begins with a direct conversation with senior leadership. No handoffs, no junior introductions — just an honest dialogue about your situation.
